Hi everyone!! I hope everyone had a great and productive week. I had lots of fun over on my end, but the highlight was a styled shoot I had the honor of shooting in Greenville, South Carolina! The AC Hotel is opening in Downtown Greenville You can see more of that on my Instagram!
This week I want to get a little more personal with everyone. I love writing these blogs for you, but realized that I haven’t had the chance to be more personal! So, I went to instagram earlier this week and asked my followers to send in questions for me to answer!
Below are the answers to your questions! I hope you enjoy!
Sarah Elizabeth Q+A
“What camera do you use?”
I use my Canon Mark D ii the most out any other camera I shoot with. I use this camera on my wedding days!
“Which lens do you use on wedding days?”
My favorite lenses for wedding days are my 50mm and my 85mm. These are perfect for those close up and dreamy portrait shots of the bride and groom! I also love a 100mm for detail shots and will sometimes use a 70mm-200mm for ceremonies!
“Sunshine or cloudy?
Ooh this is hard!!! I love a good cloudy day because I can lean into the moodiness and drama. It also sets the stage for even skin tones and colors! BUT you know I love a good sunflare and sunset!!!
“Sunrise or sunset?”
Definitely sunset, but also love the occasional beach or mountain sunrise!
“Where is your favorite place to shoot in The Upstate?”
Okay, I love the Upstate so much I can’t choose just one place so here are two:
The first is downtown charleston! I love these southern charm downtown charleston vibes! We love the mix of historic city life and dreamy beachy-ness.
Second is Asheville, North Carolina or anywhere in the Blue Ridge Parkway! The Blue Ridge Mountains are the perfect backdrop for your intimate elopement! There are also some beautiful venues for those dreamy large weddings that want an amazing view while you party all night long!
“What are your 2021 goals?”
I actually listed my 2021 in this previous blog! Check them out!
“What are your tips for someone starting out?”
Oh I love this question! Starting out can be so hard and the education never stops! So, here are my top three tips;
1. Attend styled shoots/workshops- These allow you to explore your style without the pressure of a paying client or someone’s big event! You can learn so much from others at styled events and workshops! If you don’t feel comfortable posing the models, you can easily take a back seat and let some of the other attendees pose and direct while you capture different angles and images. Once you’re a little more comfortable, this can be great experience for directing and understanding how to pose your clients! Styled shoots are also great for meeting and connecting with other photographers and vendors in your area!
2. Invest in your business and education! It can be scary to invest back into your business, but it is so worth it! Find photographers/business educators that you look up to and invest in educational workshops, online courses, graphic and web designers, etc. You can find some of my favorites here!
3. Don’t compare your Chapter 1 to someone else’s Chapter 23. YALL! Comparison is such a struggle and I know. It’s a constant battle to give myself grace for not “living up to what i want to be”. Pushing myself to be in community to learn rather than taking a backseat to critize myself and convince myself that im not worthy! We all start at Chapter 1! Make sure you are investing and following people that will encouraged you, rather than drain you!
There you have it, everyone! Thank you so much for submitting your questions and letting me get more personal with you. Have a great week and I will see you next Sunday!
xo- Sarah
