Hi friends!
How is everyone doing? This week has been so much fun between work, edits, and shoots! I had the opportunity to shoot at The Lace House in Columbia, South Carolina this weekend and locals, if you haven’t been I highly suggest you tour. It holds history, beautiful architect, and makes for the most gorgeous photo’s!
Now, speaking of gorgeous photos this week I want to share a gallery of mine that had views for days. If you haven’t had the chance to visit Greenville, South Carolina then let me help persuade you. Tucked behind Downtown Greenville is a private, active airport. I took part in a fun styled shoot crafted by The Styled Event and here was the result!
So, lets start with the props! It’s weird to call a plane a prop, but that’s quite literally what it was and I LOVED it. We had the opportunity to go inside one for a couple of minutes and it was an incredible feelings. One of those bucket-list items I was able to cross off my list!
I had so many favorite moments, but I think one of my favorites was when we asked Melissa to sit in the pilot seat of the two-seater plane and kick her feet out of the plane and onto the wing. It was amazing and looked very editorial and unlike anything I have been able to shoot! Another moment that stood out from this shoot was having both Melissa and Matt run towards each other. It looked like a scene straight from a movie! I slowed my shutter speed down and was able to capture the blur of their run and I love the way it looks. It pulled from their emotion and emoted into the photos!
One of the biggest challenge from this shoot was the amount of photographers in comparison to the amount of space we had to shoot. Many places were confined, like the cockpit of the airplane, and would only allow one photographer at a time. It definitely made you think on your feet with how to shoot because you only had a couple of second to figure it all out. All photographers were so respectful and honored everyone’s space which helped tremendously!
I think the biggest takeaway I had from this sessions was that bucket list items do come true! In life, bucket list’s can seem so out of reach, but when you are put in the right situation at the right time you find that they do happen. And, heck, if you want to sit in a private jet in your wedding dress…just ask! Aside from that, this was one of the more creative shoots I have been a part of. I definitely had to think outside-the-box and that challenged me in the best ways!
Photographers, don’t let the fear of new locations, new props, and new experiences keep you from shooting. It allows your creative process to grow and in return you learn more about who you are as a photographer. If anything, they are a great way to understand what you like, what you want to shoot more of, and what your true brand is!
I hope you all enjoyed Melissa and Matt as much as I did shooting them!
Have a great week! 🙂
xoxo-
Sarah
