Friends, what a month!!
Over the last three weeks, I have traveled to four states, shot several sessions, watched my baby brother graduate, saw Taylor Swift twice, and honestly, I don’t think I will ever recover. I still struggle with coming to terms that this is my real life and that I get to create the most magical moments in my clients’ lives. It is something I will never take for granted, but now I am stepping off my soap box to talk about Summer Weddings!
As I prep everything for the Summer season, I want to take the time to address an elephant in the room: that elephant being that Summer Weddings bring their own challenges. Planning for a wedding in general can be stressful, but when you add hot temperatures, it can get a little tricky. So, I thought now would be the perfect time to give any brides-to-be five “hacks” for planning a Summer Wedding. By following these tips, you can ensure that your summer wedding is a beautiful and memorable experience for you and your guests. Let’s get started!
Hack One: Keep Cool
Summer weddings can be hot and humid, especially if your wedding is outdoors. To ensure your guests stay cool, consider providing shade with a tent or umbrellas, and offering handheld fans or misting fans. You could also serve iced water, lemonade or other cold beverages, and set up a refreshment station with ice cream or popsicles.
Hack Two: Plan Your Time Wisely
Avoid the hottest part of the day by scheduling your wedding ceremony and reception during the late afternoon or early evening. This way, you’ll get the best of both worlds: plenty of daylight for photos and a cooler temperature for your guests. Additionally, consider setting up your ceremony and reception in the same location to reduce travel time and limit exposure to the heat.
Hack Three: Choose Attire Carefully
The summer heat can make wearing heavy or restrictive clothing uncomfortable. For the bride, consider a light, flowy wedding gown made from breathable materials such as cotton or chiffon. The groom and groomsmen could opt for linen suits or lightweight khakis paired with dress shirts. You could also offer flip-flops or sandals to your guests to help them stay comfortable.
Hack Four: Embrace Summer Themes
Summer provides ample opportunities for creative wedding themes. You could incorporate elements of the season into your decor, such as using bright and bold colors or incorporating flowers like sunflowers and daisies. For the menu, consider incorporating seasonal fruits and vegetables or serving light and refreshing dishes like ceviche or gazpacho.
Hack Five: Plan For Friendly Critters
Mosquitoes and other bugs can be a nuisance at outdoor weddings. To keep them at bay, provide bug spray or citronella candles to your guests. Additionally, consider placing screens around the food and drink stations to keep flies and other insects away.
Until next time…
xoxo-
